Archos ArcBook Overview
When Android was first released it offered a free and open operating system for any mobile device. Whilst many took the system and applied it to Smartphones, Android was also capable of powering other mobile computers.
It took a few years and iterations to get the experience just right on larger screens and since 4.2 Jelly Bean, running on the new Archos ArcBook, we finally have a system that can admirably run on personal mobile computer or laptop.
Laptop, notebook, netbook or tablet?
Archos are rebooting the netbook form factor.
Generally seen with screens around 10 inches, netbooks were a common sight only a few years ago. Performance with Windows was an issue however, many of them were slow and unable to run more powerful programs and their popularity faded.
Now with a modern mobile operating system under the hood, Archos are able to deliver an affordable, powerful and portable netbook experience with a quality app ecosystem. Performance isn't an issue with a solid 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and device ready apps delivered via Google Play.
The ArcBook is an Android netbook to be proud of.
Productivity & performance
The ArcBook features a full QWERTY keyboard with added Android function buttons (Back, Home and Multitasking) to complement the main screen. Alongside these on the slimline chassis are 2 fully functional USB 2.0 ports, a 3.5mm audio jack and a micro SD card slot to expand the base storage for your documents and files.
The dual-core 1.2 GHz RockChip processor is a powerful unit designed for low power applications and support for high definition videos and streaming. Combined with 1 GB of RAM and a huge 8,000 mAh battery, the ArcBook is ready for multitasking throughout the day.
You will also find OfficeSuite Pro 6 installed on the ArcBook out of the box. OfficeSuite is the Android document suite of choice, capable of viewing, editing and creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations, as well as saving in common formats and is completely compatible with Microsoft Office.
Touch like a Tablet
An improvement on the netbooks of old, the ArcBook's 10.1 inch display is also a capacitive multi-touch screen. With a 1024 x 600 display, this acts just like any other Archos tablet, meaning you can interact with the screen or keyboard to navigate.
With your choice of input, you can use the millions of available Android applications available from the Google Play storefront whichever way suits you.
Entertainment & media
Archos has a long pedigree in the multimedia space, being proud manufacturers of portable media players and worthy competitiors to Apple's iPod. Since the transition to Android, Archos' powerful and user-friendly media software has found a new home in the form of Multimedia Apps.
Able to recognise and playback a huge amount of media files, Archos' Media Apps provide a solid experience for listening to music or playing video, all with a simple drag and drop interface.
