- Nexus 9
The Nexus 9 is an elegantly designed tablet, manufactured by HTC on behalf of Google. It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, which offers a range of improvements to the Android experience including improved security, multiple user accounts and improved notifications.
Many manufacturers have struggled to come up with the right balance of ergonomics and aesthetics when it comes to tablet design, but HTC has done just that for the Google Nexus 9. The soft backing provides a good surface to grip, and with its slim profile (just 7.95mm) and light weight (only 425g), it's comfortable to hold one-handed. The 8.9" IPS display ensures that the Nexus 9 screen is big enough for browsing the web and watching films, but not so large that it becomes cumbersome to carry. It also includes Double Tap to Wake, which gives you a quick method to wake the device up if it's in standby mode.
As well as its sturdy, premium design, HTC has included one of its recent innovations, BoomSound technology. This was first debuted in the HTC One and offers the best audio experience found on a smartphone or tablet. The dual front facing speakers are enhanced by BoomSound, which provides increased volume levels with a layered sound and without distortion. It's great for music playback; if you've never heard it before you'll be surprised just how loud and clear the sound is.
Power isn't a problem for the Nexus 9, it features a 2.3GHz dual-core processor with 2GB RAM. There's no internal storage included, but it does come in either 16GB or 32GB memory variants. It's also got plenty of connectivity options - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, DLNA and (optionally) LTE. There are also dual microphones included, so if you are using the cellular version of the Nexus 9 to make calls the audio quality will be nice and clear.
To power all of the above the Nexus 9 includes a 6700mAh battery. This should provide approximately 9.5 hours video playback, 8.5 hours LTE browsing or 9.5 hours Wi-Fi browsing. This means you'll easily get a full day's heavy use out of it, and that's before you've turned on Android Lollipop's power saving mode, which can add an extra 1.5 hours battery life to a device.
