Samsung’s Note series didn’t get off to the most positive of starts with the original Note, the cries of ‘it’s too big’ were heard everywhere yet people seemed to warm to it. Samsung followed up with the Note 2 which became a world-wide success selling millions worldwide in the first few months of its release.
Now Samsung are set to go even further with the critically acclaimed Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has a larger display than its predecessor at 5.7" to that of 5.5" and features Super AMOLED screen technology providing a superb full HD 1920 x 1080 display.
Samsung have upgraded the processor to a 2.3GHz Quad-Core or 1.9GHz Octa-Core processor (depending on region) along with a whopping 3GB of RAM to ensure that the Note 3 remains lag free and continuously operates around the clock at a brisk speed; couple this with the fact that it’s running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and you’ll have one of the smoothest devices on the market.
Arguably the most hailed feature of the Note range is the S Pen stylus and the multi-tasking capabilities that it offers. With the Note 3, simply clicking the S Pen Stylus opens up a world of features. For the Note 3, Samsung has once again redesigned the S Pen and added new weapons to its productivity arsenal, including the new Air Command panel.
Whilst hovering over the screen of the Note 3, clicking the S Pen will open up Air Command, which offers up five powerful features:
Action Memo - Handwrite a note to automatically execute a command or have the content converted to a digital format.
Scrapbook - Organise and research content using various sources (the web, YouTube, Gallery, etc.) and keep it in once place for convenient future reference. When saving content, scrapbook will make a note of its originating source, e.g URLs for web content, so that you can easily track back to it at a later date.
Screen Write - Capture a full screen shot of the current screen on the device and then use the S Pen to annotate it with notes or to draw moustaches on faces.
S Finder - Brings up a search function with advanced filters. Find content based on keyword(s), date, location, type and also search for other related content. You can also search for handwritten notes, symbols and formulas.
Pen Window - This allows you to draw a box of any size on the screen and then open a compatible application within it. The box can be drawn anywhere on the 5.7" full HD display without pausing the current activity.
There's also a new version of S Note, which can be synced with an Evernote or Samsung account and enabled for viewing from other devices, plus a feature called Easy Clip, which will convert a roughly selected area into a precisely cropped image.
That's quite a list of features, but these only include those that are new to the Note 3 - there are of course the others that it inherits from the Note 2, such as:
Note taking and handwriting input - great for scribbling down text that is tricky to enter on the on-screen keyboard, or for signing documents.
Signing documents and annotating different files, such as photos, diagrams, maps and pdf files.
Air View - preview the contents of an app or folder by hovering over it with the S Pen.
Device navigation - select apps and swipe through screens as you would with your finger
Creation of digital art - there are some great apps available for this now.
Both cameras on the Note 3 include a BSI sensor with Smart Stabilisation in order to improve low light shots. The rear camera also includes an LED flash and zero shutter lag. The front cam can record full HD video at 30fps, but even more impressively the rear camera can make 4K recordings - that's some crisp looking video footage.
Next, let's take a look at the photography offering of the Galaxy Note 3, which features a 13MP rear camera and 2MP front facing camera. Samsung handsets take some great photos and the Korean manufacturers is not shy when it comes to introducing new software features.
In terms of camera features, there are plenty included to tickle your fancy; Dual Shot, Dual Recording and Dual Video call enable you to make use of both cameras at the same time. Also included are many of the features the Samsung introduced with the S4; Drama Shot, Sound &
Shot, Animated Photo, Eraser, Best Photo, Best Face, Panorama and HDR mode are among the most impressive and there are plenty of other configurations for you to adjust within the camera interface.
Samsung has refreshed the design of the Note 3,'balancing strength with artistic design'. It's got a squarer look to it than the Note 2 and the faux leather back and serration pattern on the side give it the notebook-like congruence that will appeal to business users.
Despite including a larger screen, a larger battery and more features, Samsung has managed to trim down the thickness of the Note 3 to just 8.3mm. It's also lighter than its predecessor - weighing 168g compared to 180g - and has a smaller overall footprint, meaning that even with a larger screen it'll take up less room in your pocket. All in all it's a slimmer, more stylish device that manages to maintain a solid build quality.

*Since September 2013, Samsung have implemented a 'region lock' on all new stock. Clove Technology only have access to models designed for the “European” region, which covers both UK and mainland Europe. The compatible countries are listed below**.
For correct operation, this handset should be activated inside one of these countries with a SIM card issued for use there. The device will then be able to accept SIM cards from outside of these countries.
Activation requires turning the device on for the first time & completing set-up with the SIM installed, then completing at least 5 minutes of voice call(s) with this SIM.
Without activation you may still use the device outside of these countries when 'roaming' - using a SIM card from the listed countries.
If this activation procedure is not followed then the device will lock when first attempted to be used with a SIM card from outside of these regions. Local Samsung support may provide a code to unlock such handsets.
**All member states of the E.E.A and the following additional territories: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (F.Y.R.O.M), Monaco, Montenegro, San Marino, Serbia and Vatican City.
IF YOUR CHOSEN DELIVERY COUNTY IS NOT LISTED, CLOVE TECHNOLOGY WILL BREAK THE SEAL ON THIS DEVICE AND ACTIVATE IT. YOU MUST AGREE TO THIS PROCEDURE IN THE CHECKOUT BEFORE THE SALE WILL COMPLETE.
