Sony want to make ensure the whole X family boasts an amazing camera. Previous flagships from Sony all had brilliant cameras but through great innovation they have made the XZ and X compact even better.
The introduction of triple image sensing and laser autofocus makes it easier to capture sharp photos even in low light. A new RGB-IR sensor has been added as well, this in real terms means you can capture true-to-life colours with the X Compact.
A good camera is very important for many users now, whether it be for your social media, for those memories or for work. Having a camera that you can rely on is often a feature that can make or break a flagship device.
For the X compact Sony have ensured you will get the best out of your camera, so you will never have to worry about blurry or washed out photos. Therefore whatever you use your smartphone camera for, this device wont let you down.
Blur-free photos even in low-light
Sony are usually the front runners when it comes to hardware in cameras. Their lenses are often used by other manufactures which goes to show hopw good they are. However you also need great software to accompany the hardware.
Sony have delivered in the software department and moved from Hybrid Autofocus to Laser Autofocus. The key advantage to laser autofocus is that it delivers brilliant low light focusing.
This means that whatever time of day or lighting conditions you have you shots should never be blurry. This is a great selling point and for those of you who need a reliable then this is a device to seriously consider.
There is also a Touch Capture function which lets you tap anywhere on the screen to immediately focus and take the shot, all in one single gesture.
Sony have also included Clear Image Zoom - a 5x lossless digital zoom function. This enlarges your view without the usual noise and blurring found with digital zooms.
23 Megapixel 1/2.3” Exmor RS™
Making an industry leading camera is no easy feat, but Sony have the expertise to deliver in this department year in year out.
Their 23 Megapixel 1/2.3” Exmor RS™ For Mobile sensor from the Z5 series has been included in this new range. Combine this with the added software features and you have a truly great in your hands.
Sony's G Lens incorporates a wide-angle 24mm lens - this takes in more light than competitors and allows you to frame wide shots with ease.
If you thought new phones were all about specifications then think again. Sony have also worked hard to provide a suite of interesting features to play with and accentuate the camera.
The AR Effect mode is great for silly editing - add stickers, doodles and messages, with extra packs available to download from Sony.
Similarly, AR Mask makes use of face-detection so you can swap faces around or cover them with masks before taking the shot - great for having some fun with selfies and group pictures.
Movie Creator can flick through the stored pictures on your phone and create a customisable slideshow based on their date or location when taken. There's also a host of post-editing tools to improve the look of any picture. How about trying the Style Portait mode to edit faces during or after the picture.
Intelligent Auto mode automatically picks a suitable preset scene from dozens, all depending on current environmental factors. There's scope for editing here too; you can modify scenes or individual settings to inject some personality in your pictures.
Lastly - launch the camera swiftly via a dedicated hardware button. Perfect for accessing the camera quickly when you may be doing something else, it also offers tactile control when taking a picture, removing your hand or finger from the screen.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow
The latest software from Android comes preloaded on the Xperia X series and with it arrives a host of great features that improve the user interface and user experience.
One main software change is Android 6.0 Marshmallow's new ‘Now on Tap’ feature. All you need to do is just touch and hold the home button of your device and information – as well as apps – will appear depending on what you're reading, watching or listening to.
There have also been improvements in battery optimisation with a new feature called ‘Doze’ and a new app standby aspect. Doze automatically puts your device into a sleep slate so it can save battery when the device isn’t in use. Combine this with smarter app standby control which means seldom used apps are not draining you power, then you can see some nice battery improvements with Android 6.0.

Android Device Manager has provided remote security in Android for some time, although Sony have built on this with their own Xperia protection systems.
If you connect your X Compact to a PC or Mac you will be prompted to install the Xperia companion software. Once connected, as long as your phone is turned on, you can locate it, make it ring, display a message or even factory wipe it.
Best of all you can even ensure the phone is totally locked down if stolen, making it impossible to to be unlocked, wiped or information retrieved without access to your personal credentials.
For some final security, make use of the fingerprint sensor, built into the redesigned power button on the phone's right side. With this, no-one other than you or trusted others can unlock your phone.
The Compact versions of Sony's Z range smartphones have always been about delivering high specifications in a smaller form factor.
The X Compact continues this tradition, providing a more accessibly-sized smartphone, without compromising on power and functionality.
The 4.6" HD 720 x 1280 provides high quality colour reproduction and viewing angles, and helps to save on battery life when compared to larger, more resource-hungry devices.
Those after something a little larger and more detailed might be interested in the standard XZ.
Raw processing power is handled by Qualcomm's current Snapdragon 650, a 64 bit Hexa-core chipset with Adreno 510 GPU. This is all helped by 3GB of RAM.
The combination creates a worthy experience for power users, allowing for deep multitasking as well as delivering powerful 3D graphics.
As with any top of the range smartphone, you can expect a full range of connectivity options from dual-band Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct Miracast streaming and content sharing, assisted GPS with GLONASS and Beidou support, Bluetooth 4.1, and NFC for one-touchpairing and payments.
PS4 Remote Play
Currently the industry leaders in the global console market, PS4 Remote Play allows you to stream content from your PS4 directly to your phone screen.
This can be anything from stored videos or music to fully installed PS4 games!
If someone else needs the TV, you can continue the action on your Xperia X Compact smartphone.
The Dualshock 4 controller can be paired directly to any Xperia Z range device, and you can use the GCM10 Game Control Mount to hold the phone in a comfortable playing position.
Note - for best performance, PS4 Remote Play is recommended to be run on the same network, with the PS4 system having a wired LAN connection to the Internet.
